it doesn’t come out here until next month. I’m curious but it does look like conventional historical biopic from where I’m standing
It is very much a bog standard biopic, I’ve watched it a few times now and each time I just feel that its very overrated. Don’t get me wrong, there are some good performances (Tommy Lee Jones and Sally Field especially) but none that I’ve thought are particularly Oscar nomination worthy.
Even Daniel Day Lewis looks bored in it and if DDL can’t hold my attention then nothing can I’m afraid.
I don’t know, it all feels very much phoned in and packaged as Oscar Gold, I mean how can it lose? DDL directed by Steven Spielberg in a movie about slavery and Americas favourite president who got assasinated, I mean, how could that lose really? I bet the academy almost wet themselves when it went into production! All it needs is a kid in a wheelchair and I’d bet my house that it would win. Even in absence of crippled children I have a horrible feeling that it will probably win best picture, though of all the nominees I’d probably put this as the least worthy.
